On this Thanksgiving Day, as families gather across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John and our thriving Diaspora, my heart settles on one truth: gratitude is something we live, not just something we say.

Here in the Virgin Islands, we understand that. We grew up with neighbors who feel like kin, with aunties who correct us and cheer for us in the same breath, with elders whose stories carry the salt, sun and strength of generations. Gratitude isn’t abstract here — it’s baked into who we are.

This season, as many families carry heavier burdens from rising costs to lingering uncertainty, our tradition of showing up for one another matters even more. We know the quiet heroism that happens every day in our islands: the cousin who checks on an elder, the church volunteer who packs an extra tray, the farmer who slips a little more into your bag because “you might need it.” These small acts weave together the big idea that defines us as Virgin Islanders — community is love in motion.

And this year, as our volunteers stand shoulder to shoulder serving meals to the homeless and the disenfranchised, their shirts carried a message at the heart of who we are: Faith in Action. Because in the Virgin Islands, faith isn’t passive. It moves. It shows up early to cook. It serves a stranger with dignity. It wipes a tear, lifts a spirit and reminds someone they’re not forgotten. Faith in action is the thread that has always held us together.

When my team and I filmed our Thanksgiving message, I kept thinking about what truly anchors us as a people: our faith, our families and our community. These aren’t just words; they’re the backbone of our Virgin Islands story. Faith is the courage to serve. Family is the circle that holds us. Community is the promise that no one walks alone.

I’m grateful for the hands that work, the hearts that give and the children who remind us what tomorrow can look like if we keep pushing, keep caring, keep believing. I’m grateful for every person who makes our islands stronger, kinder, more resilient.

As you gather today — around long tables, folding tables or a simple plate shared with a neighbor — I invite you to watch our Thanksgiving video. It’s a small portrait of who we are as Virgin Islanders: rooted in service, rich in love, committed to each other.

From my family to yours, thank you for the grace you show across our Virgin Islands. May God bless your home and bless our beloved islands.

Happy Thanksgiving.

One VI, always.
