USVI Soccer Association Hosts D.C. United Tour & Exhibition Match

• Initiative and Fundraising: Spearheaded efforts to bring D.C. United, a celebrated Major League Soccer team, to St. Croix for a landmark 5-day Island tour and exhibition game against the Bermuda team in 2019. Successfully mobilized private sector funding, marking the first occasion a championship team played in the territory. 
• Economic and Community Impact: The event catalyzed a $500,000 boost to the local economy during the recovery period between hurricanes Irma and Maria. Achieved full occupancy for local hotels and Airbnb accommodations, boosting the morale and resilience of the community still struggling to rebuild the island’s infrastructure.
• Health and Well-being Enhancement: Facilitated an exchange of knowledge and best practices on improved health, nutrition, and fitness training among the teams and the local community. This initiative underscored the importance of healthy living practices in combating prevalent health issues such as diabetes and hypertension among our population.
