Judicial Equity

Advocating for Judicial Equity with H.R. 282 and Term Extensions

In a pivotal move toward enhancing the judicial system in U.S. territories, Teri has collaborated with The Honorable Robert A. Molloy, Chief Judge of the District Court of the Virgin Islands, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), advocating for legislative changes. Together, they’ve focused on the Request for the Term Extension of Judges and the progression of H.R. 282. This bill seeks to address the disparities faced by territorial district judges by proposing a retirement age reduction from 65 to 50 after at least 10 years of service or extending their term from 10 to 15 years. Such adjustments aim to align the conditions of territorial judges more closely with those of federal judges, ensuring equal benefits and the ability to maintain effective judicial proceedings. Through this partnership, Teri, Judge Molloy and Senator Gillibrand strive to secure a more reputable judicial framework that supports the dedicated servants of the law in U.S. territories.
